Kwollem has been on the underground radar for the last few years now, after the initial release of his debut project “Mellow EP” and some earlier singles prior to this. He is an extraordinary producer deriving from Newham, East London and has mastered his trait in infusing the sounds of grime and mellow music, which compliment each other well considering some listeners could say they're both on the opposite sides of the spectrum.
KwolleM’s style is very distinct, and it helps differentiate his style from many other producers in the game right now. Gathering inspiration from Nujabes, who inspired the name KwolleM (Mellow K) and artists/producers like Knxwledge, who made it clear to KwolleM that it is possible to produce for yourself and handle all of your own work of art by utilizing different vocals, samples and frequencies.
Once KwolleM took atone of his own inspirations, he quickly began to find his own sound, a sound that is fresh for the UK, which also feels homely, because of the use of widely known UK artists and tracks, with the mix of the comforting sound of KwolleM, putting almost any listener into a chill like-minded state.
With the release of c2c, KwolleM has done it again, presenting us with a contemporary project with the renowned chill vibe KwolleM loves to create. With the likes of Joe James, Devlin, DC, Novelist and more all appearing on the project, there’s no doubt that this one was going to deliver a crazy mix up of alternative sounds, with the old school respected artists of Devlin and Novelist, and the newer contemporary sounds of Joe James and DC.
Although KwolleM is reconstructing the old with the new, he has created a whole different subcategory of Grime, and now there are many artists who gravitate towards this subcategory, diversifying the music scene in the heart of the UK. There is only growth from here onward.
