West London artist Joe James revealed his freestyle and lyrical capability back in 2017 when appearing on a Rinse FM Freestyle and with his earlier songs Soul Brother and later presenting Afro Samurai in early 2018. Joe’s laid back flow and detailed story telling can put anyone who appreciates music into a trance.
Also recognized for his modelling with Stone Island, Burberry and more, Joe is prospering in multiple industries, showing us how he can balance his hustle. Proving that hes more than just a face in front of the camera. From being on billboards at the age of 16, Joe is accustomed to being ‘out there’. Hopefully we see him again on billboards soon but this time for his music.
Joe James has his own distinctive style of rap, jumping between rap, hip hop and drill constructing his own sound. This sound alongside his particular choice of instrumentals, heavily jazz and boom bap influenced puts Joe within his own category. It’s clear Joe has been exposed to a variety of music because there are many different aspects which can be heard through his style.
After taking a short break with releasing, Joe James has returned giving us a new project split up into 6 parts. The project is made up of freestyles throughout as Joe likes to do. With mellow vocals on a diverse list of instrumentals, no freestyle sounding identical but all depicting his story. Even though the videos behind these freestyles aren’t considered music videos, but luxury freestyles, there is still an intricate style and aesthetic behind each of them giving people more to engage with.
